Today I finished my eight and final concept illustration of the bosses in the Zathira shmup I’m working on. In the planned order from first to last:
The planned story of the game is as follows: on a distant world brimming with life, as time passes, the seven goddesses of the land discover that the people do not worship them as they once did. The people take the prosperity of the land, the abundant crops and calm weather for granted. Unsure how to proceed, the six goddesses of nature commune until they begin bickering amongst themselves, and with the world’s deities at odds, the negative energy brimming between them summoned a dark spirit from below, the Dark Goddess Giza. Far more powerful than the other seven, she united them with a simple directive: if the people have forgotten the value of worshipping the gods, they needed to be reminded. Thus, Giza directed the other seven goddesses to use their vast power over nature to bring chaos and destruction to the world.
One goddess, however, the heavenly Goddess Nafasi, saw that such a path would only lead to the destruction of all life on the planet, and without people to worship and live for them, the goddesses would have no reason to be. All would cease to exist. To avert this, Nafasi summoned a champion from beyond the stars. No one knew where she came from, but she was blessed with the power to stand toe to toe with all manner of threats from amongst the cosmos. If anyone could calm the goddesses’ fury and set the planet on the right path once again, it would be she.
The champion’s name was Zathira, and she would be the world’s savior…if she could prove herself equal to the strength of the world’s goddesses, including Nafasi herself…

The Goddesses represent the planned path I came up with for Zathira to proceed through the game. She would start in space, penetrate the atmosphere and soar through the sky. Then after passing over a vast ocean, Zathira would proceed through a vicious thunderstorm before reaching the serenity of a dense forest. Passing through a mountain range and a cavern, she would eventually find herself proceeding into an underground volcano, and eventually into the deepest depths of the planet to battle the source of the chaos.
As for these actual illustrations, I plan to produce prints and other products for sale, both through my Redbubble Store and directly, if anyone is interested in signed, limited prints.
Now that these are done, it’s time to move onto other aspects of this project’s production. Thanks for reading!
